DJ Selecta Jef Names the Stars Carrying Ugandan Music High

Ugandan DJ Selecta Jef is not holding back when it comes to defending local music.

Many people often claim Ugandan music falls short compared to international hits, but Jef strongly disagrees.

He believes the industry is thriving, especially with the new wave of talented musicians.

Taking to his X page, Jef dropped a list of artistes he says prove Uganda’s music scene is alive and kicking.

With the likes of Ava Peace, Aaronx, Tracy Melon, Pretty Banks, Winnie Wa Mummy, Joshua Baraka, Dax Vibes, Elijah Kitaka, Azawi, Daddy Andre, Bebe Cool, Heli Babe, Kapeke, Omega 256, Jowy Landa, Nandor Love… If you think Uganda doesn’t have good music, f*** You. Our creatives have really tried.

As expected, the post quickly sparked reactions online.

Some fans backed his statement, praising Uganda’s talent, while others accused him of bias, claiming he was only promoting artistes he works with.

Others were surprised to see rising singer Winnie Wa Mummy included, while big names like Alien Skin, King Saha, and T Paul were left off the list.

Dancehall singer Nutty Neithan also joined the debate, writing, “Always counting me out.”

But Selecta Jef kept it classy, replying: “Gwe oli champ… LEGEND.”
