The First Hit Song Does Not Guarantee Big Paychecks, Says John Blaq
Many people believe that once an artiste lands their first hit song, money automatically follows.
But according to Ugandan singer John Blaq, that is far from the truth.
Speaking in a sit-down interview on Deep Talk, John Blaq revealed that his breakthrough hit “Tukwatagane” made him famous but did not bring him any money.
Tukwatagane got me known by people but it did not bring money.
He explained that it took two or three more songs after “Tukwatagane” before he could finally start earning from music.
I started making money after releasing Obubadi.
The singer also expressed sympathy for artistes who are judged harshly by the public simply because they have one hit.
I feel sorry for musicians who are judged just because they have released one hit song. People expect them to immediately have a car, live in a nice house, and wear expensive clothes.
According to him, the reality of the music industry is very different from what most people believe.
One hit most times is not enough. People can get to know you for it yet you are not really earning from it.
With this reality check, John Blaq reminded fans that behind the fame, many artistes still struggle financially even after their first big hit.
