“$200K for One Day?” — Loukman Ali Questions Lavish Wedding Spending
Ugandan filmmaker Loukman Ali has set social media ablaze after questioning a friend’s decision to spend $200,000 (roughly UGX 710 million) on a wedding.
In a viral post on X, Ali admitted he was “struggling to wrap [his] head around it,” saying that while a car may be a liability, “at least you can drive it.”
He described the wedding as a “single-day party” and joked, “Maybe I am just poor.”
He then threw out the question that really set people off: are there any actual pros to a wedding or marriage in general?
The blunt take split opinion fast.
Some defended big weddings as emotional and cultural milestones worth every coin if affordable.
Others agreed with Ali, arguing the money could go toward long-term investments instead.
One tweet. One question. And now everyone’s arguing about the real price of saying “I do.”
A friend of mine is spending $200,000 on a wedding 👀 I’m struggling to wrap my head around it. A car is a liability, but at least you can drive it. $200k for a single day party is wild to me. Maybe I’m just poor. are there any actual pros to a wedding or marriage in general?
