No Nigerian Artist Has Faced More Hate Than Me – Davido
Afrobeats star Davido has opened up about the hate he receives online and why he believes no other Nigerian artist has been disrespected like him.
Speaking during an interview with The Breakfast Club, the singer said that fans of other artists attack him constantly, and some even go as far as dragging his family just to get attention.
Davido pointed out that even American singer Victoria Monét noticed the negative comments about their upcoming song on his new album, 5ive.
He told her to ignore the hate because it is something he deals with all the time.
According to him, the introduction of money-making features on social media platform X has made things worse.
He said some users now attack him just to go viral and earn money.
In fact, one of his loudest critics admitted they only insulted him online to grow their audience.
Davido said the hate is so bad, he does not even let his wife see most of it because he fears it would hurt her deeply.
“In the history of Nigerian artistes, I think I have been the most bashed and disrespected,” he said.
Although he did not name anyone, fans of Wizkid and Burna Boy are believed to be behind many of the online attacks, especially since Davido has had rocky relationships with both of them over the years.
When asked about the current state of those relationships, Davido said he no longer has personal ties with them, although they once shared a bond.
Still, he did not rule out the chance of working with them again.
“It is not impossible,” he said, adding that the people around them often make things difficult.
Even with Davido keeping the door open for peace, his recent run-ins with Wizkid and Burna Boy show that the rivalry is still alive.
