80% of Ugandan Musicians Use Drugs – Jacob Omutuuze

Entertainment critic Jacob Omutuuze highlighted a serious issue in the Ugandan music scene: the widespread use of drugs among musicians.

During a media interview, he pointed out that about 80% of Ugandan artistes, including those in the gospel genre, struggle with drug use, and many of these challenges remain hidden from the public.

He praised Geosteady for seeking help by entering rehab, acknowledging that acceptance is often the hardest step.

Reflecting on his own experiences, Jacob shared that he once used drugs to support his radio show but eventually chose to quit.

Jacob explained that his reputation suffered due to the stigma associated with drug use, as people labeled him because of it.

He alleged that musicians Fefe Bussi and Jay Z Owejanzi introduced him to drugs.

While he noted that drugs can provide a temporary high, he emphasized that they ultimately lead to serious health problems.

He also discussed the negative impact on a musician’s reputation when news of their rehab status becomes public.

Jacob mentioned that many companies are reluctant to work with musicians struggling with addiction because of the stigma attached.

In response to claims that Geosteady’s drug issues were linked to the end of his relationship with Prima, Jacob suggested that they may not have truly split and could even be sneaking around together.

He believes that the pressures of writing lyrics and the company musicians keep are the main reasons they turn to drugs.
