A Pass Rejects the Idea That One Artiste Can Be the Face of Ugandan Music

Singer A Pass, born Alexander Bagonza, has spoken out against the notion that a single artiste can represent Ugandan music.

His response came after a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) by @tonykamagara1 sparked conversation online.

The post included images of Joshua Baraka, Elijah Kitaka, Azawi, and A Pass, along with the caption: “Who is the face of Ugandan music?”

In the comments, users were divided over which of the listed artists deserved the title, while others mentioned names they felt were unfairly left out.

A Pass, one of the artistes featured in the post, joined the discussion and rejected the idea of narrowing Ugandan music to just one or two individuals.

“All Ugandan artistes are the face of Ugandan music. One or two cannot be,” he posted.

He emphasized the collective effort behind the industry’s growth, adding, “We all play a role in building the Ugandan music culture.”
