A Pass Says No to Government Handouts: “Legacy Over Currency”
Singer A Pass has firmly ruled out accepting government stimulus packages for creatives, making it clear they are not for him.
Speaking to Daily Soup, the “Tuli Kubigere” star emphasized that while other musicians are free to accept the funds, he prefers to earn his money.
He also revealed that he stays out of discussions about these funds because they are none of his concern.
Those issues are of no concern to me. They can give other musicians money, but I am not a part of that. I want money, but only when I have worked for it in other ways. I do not want money from the government. I want money from the fans.

Taking his stance even further, A Pass revealed that he would turn down a staggering 1 billion shillings from the government.
I would not take it. Legacy over currency.
The Ugandan government has, on several occasions, set aside money to boost the creative sector.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, they handed out Shs 6.6 billion, and just recently, they earmarked a whopping Shs 66 billion for the arts in the 2025 Financial Year.
But for A Pass, all that cash? Thanks, but no thanks.
