A Pass Urges Musicians to Build True Fanbases Beyond TikTok Trends
The conversation around what truly matters in a music career, hit songs or legacy, has sparked fresh debate in the entertainment industry, and A Pass is the latest to weigh in.
In a recent post on X, the “Chupa Ku Chupa” singer cautioned fellow musicians against chasing short-lived trends.
He instead urged them to focus on creating music that speaks to a specific group of people who can grow into a loyal fanbase.
Do not just focus on getting a hit song. Focus on creating music that is meaningful to a particular group of people that can become your family (fanbase). Some of you think you have a fanbase because you are trending on TikTok, but you are the flavor of the moment, you do not have a fanbase.
While A Pass did not mention anyone by name, his remarks come just days after singer Spice Diana stirred conversation with her own take on musical success.
In an interview, Spice argued that once an artiste is established, hit songs cease to be their main focus as they shift their attention to maintaining their reputation.
Her comments drew sharp criticism from fellow artiste Jowy Landa, who openly disagreed, saying, “Every musician wants a hit. Anyone who says they do not need one is just pretending.”
A Pass’s contribution to the debate, though indirect, seems to land somewhere between both positions.
He does not deny the value of hit songs but warns against mistaking viral moments for real, long-term support.
