Abbas Kaijuka Reveals Why Male Artistes Are the Hardest to Style

Ugandan fashion designer Abbas Kaijuka has opened up about his experience working with male artistes, and according to him, it has not always been smooth.

Speaking on The Beep Talk, Abbas explained that attitude is often the biggest challenge when dealing with male musicians.

As a creative who values growth and evolution in fashion, he added that many of them are often resistant to change, which he finds frustrating.

Male artistes are very hard to work with. First of all, they are big-headed and they do not listen. They do not want to pay. Most of them also want to wear the same thing all the time. I am not that kind of person. I do not want to style someone in the same outfit, like jeans and a jacket all the time. When I see that you are not evolving, I opt out.

Abbas also addressed the belief that styling musicians is his main source of income, dismissing it as false.

I dress a lot of artistes, and people might think I have made a lot of money from them. Me, I make more money from ordinary people like to-be-weds or newlyweds. They are the ones I make most of my money from, not artistes.

He further made it clear that protecting his reputation remains a top priority.

Every look he creates carries his name, which is why he is selective about the artistes he chooses to work with.

So I would rather not work with you because you are going to embarrass me. I do not want people to say, ‘So and so is styled by Abbas,’ when the way you dress is not representing me. That is why I limit myself to certain artistes.

In the end, Abbas stressed that for him, standards come first, even if that means turning down opportunities.
