Abitex Responds to Government Snub: “Promoters Will Be Heard”
Abitex, the president of promoters in Uganda, has spoken out following a recent meeting with Honourable Betty Amongi, the minister in charge of the Art and Creative Industry.
During the meeting last week, Honourable Amongi reportedly stated that the government does not recognize promoters and currently has no clear structures in place for them.
In a powerful response delivered to Sanyuka Uncut cameras, Abitex warned:
We are left with only 6 to 7 days. This time, the government will understand the real meaning and importance of promoters in this country. To the police, get ready, because we are coming. We are the very people you have continuously underrated.
Abitex also criticized fellow artiste and Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) president, Eddy Kenzo, over his financial example.
Eddy Kenzo, you do not even understand what saving means. How can you receive 10 million, use 8 million, and then claim you have saved 7 million? That does not make sense.
He further called out events promoter turned politician Hon. Balaam Barugahara.
Hon. Balaam, you came from among us, but now you are fighting against us. Have you forgotten where you started?
Abitex concluded by urging all promoters across the country to stand up and be counted, saying the time has come for their voices to be heard.
