Abtex Visits Biggie Events in Luzira, Calls for Support from Balaam and Government
Abtex, the President of Uganda’s Promoters’ Association, visited Luzira Prison this week to check on Biggie Events, a fellow promoter who is serving a six-month sentence handed down on Monday.
Biggie’s imprisonment stems from a 70 million shilling debt she borrowed from David Tumusiime Amooti to organize concerts, which she has reportedly failed to repay.
During the visit, Abtex appealed to politician and events promoter Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi to intervene in the matter.
Balaam understands the challenges promoters face when organizing events, challenges that in this case led Biggie into financial difficulties.
He also urged the government to support the Promoters’ SACCO, saying this would help event organizers access loans safely and run successful shows without the risk of ending up in prison.
