Abtex Warns Managers Against Getting Romantically Involved with Artistes

Events promoter Abbey Musinguzi, popularly known as Abtex, has spoken out against relationships between managers or promoters and their artistes.

Speaking to Sanyuka Uncut, he described such affairs as very dangerous and a path that rarely ends well.

Abtex said that, over time, the artiste may start seeing others, leaving the promoter or manager feeling betrayed despite all the support they have provided to the artiste’s career.

I hear those things, but they do not happen in my camp. It is very dangerous for a promoter or manager to have an affair with their musician. It reaches a point where the musician sees another class and starts to view you as someone who does not deserve them.

He compared it to paying fees for someone with the expectation of marrying them later.

It is like paying fees for a girl, expecting that you will marry her when she grows up. But by the time she is ready, you are older, she is seeing other people, and she ends up leaving you, leaving you regretting the money you spent.

Abtex emphasized that unless a promoter or manager is not the jealous type, these relationships are almost guaranteed to fail.

I do not support the idea of a promoter or manager having an affair with their artistes unless you are not the jealous type. But if you are jealous, it is inevitable that the relationship will end, because you may catch her with other boys who are younger and richer, even after you have helped her rise.
