Alex Muhangi Challenges TUCA Leadership, Pushes for New Comedians Body

Comedy Store boss and comedian Alex Muhangi has called for the formation of a new association for comedians in Uganda, separate from The Uganda Comedians Association (TUCA), currently led by Hannington Bugingo.

In an audio making rounds online, Muhangi expressed frustration with how TUCA is being managed, saying that Bugingo is “too busy” to effectively plan for or support fellow comedians.

According to Muhangi, many comedians have reached out to him seeking help during tough times, but he feels powerless since he holds no formal position within TUCA, or above it, to help them.

Comedians call me every day, saying they are going through hard times, but I have no power to assist them.

Muhangi also made a passionate appeal, saying “Naffe twaagala sente,” meaning “We also want money,” though he did not specify where the money should come from or to whom his outcry was directed.

His comments have sparked conversation within Uganda’s comedy industry, with many awaiting an official statement or clarification from him or TUCA leadership.
