Allan Toniks Reveals the Realities of a Music Career in Uganda
“Romance” hitmaker Allan Toniks recently spilled some interesting facts about his career on Next Radio’s Big Talk, offering a sneak peek into his world of music, creativity, and personal philosophy.
Toniks kicked things off by warning aspiring musicians that the journey is not as easy as it looks. “If you are looking for something simple, music is not for you,” he said.
The singer described his experience as a roller coaster of ups and downs, filled with both excitement and challenges.
Known for constantly exploring new sounds, Toniks admitted that sticking to the same thing over time can be boring for any creative mind.
He explained, “You always want to try something new. As an artiste, it’s all about growth and experimentation.”
The singer also reflected on how music crosses language barriers. “We would listen to Awilo Longomba without even understanding the lyrics, but we still enjoyed the music,” he said.
When asked about his thoughts on marriage, Toniks shared an interesting view. “I feel like most real things happen accidentally,” he revealed, adding that he does not believe in actively searching for a partner.
In terms of Uganda’s music culture, the singer had a few suggestions. According to him, Ugandans tend to favor singles over albums.
“The habit of listening to albums is not common in Uganda; singles are more popular,” Toniks observed, but he is on a mission to change that. “The only way to shift this is to give the people albums,” he said.
And as for collaborations, Toniks expressed a strong willingness to work with other artistes.
Lastly, for those wondering about his unique stage name, Allan Toniks revealed its origin story. “The name Allan Toniks originates from the time I studied music at O Level, and as you are changing keys, you keep changing tones and the name kind of came from there. I was the tones guy,” he said.
