Anne Kansiime Breaks Silence on Paying Her Own Dowry and Marriage Reality
Celebrated Ugandan comedian Anne Kansiime has revealed that she paid her own dowry in a past relationship, before later questioning whether she was ever truly married.
Speaking in an interview with Wonder Jr, Kansiime said she introduced her partner to her parents, but he failed to pay the required dowry.
Instead of walking away, she chose to pay it herself in a bid to make the relationship work and meet expectations.
I have never become a wife. I convinced myself, the man, and the world that we were married.
She said they continued with the relationship as normal, even though the situation raised questions she would only confront later.
Kansiime, who was previously married to Gerald Ojok, said the relationship lasted several years before ending in 2017.
As time passed, she began to reflect more deeply on her life, especially her desire to have a child, which brought emotional weight to her experience.
That makes you think deeper. The God who has given me all these wonderful things without asking is the same God that refused to give me a child?
She said her desire to build a stable family influenced many of her decisions, even when things did not feel right.
Her revelation has sparked debate about pressure in relationships, cultural expectations, and the personal compromises people make behind closed doors.
