Asake Reveals He Was Once Denied Shows Over Yoruba Lyrics

Long before sold out shows and global hits, Asake was being told his music would not work.

In a recent interview with Famous TV, the Nigerian singer, born Ahmed Ololade, revealed that some promoters once turned him away because he performed mainly in Yoruba.

They believed the language would limit his appeal and hold him back.

For Asake, that moment became a quiet test of conviction.

He could either adjust his sound to fit expectations or double down on who he was.

He chose the second path.

The rejection did not disappear overnight. But consistency did what doubt could not.

Over time, the same Yoruba-infused sound critics questioned became his signature.

Now, Asake looks back at those early no’s with gratitude, seeing them as proof that staying original was worth the wait.

How I got to where I am today is by God’s grace, self belief, consistency and endurance. At some point, a lot of people said no to me. They did not allow me to perform at shows because I spoke Yoruba. But thank God I did not stop and I kept believing in myself. Now look at where I am today. I am so happy for myself.
