Azawi Breaks Down the Truth About Artiste and Record Label Relationships
Priscilla Zawedde, popularly known as Azawi, has shared her thoughts on the often misunderstood relationship between artistes and record labels.
Speaking to Executive Media, the singer addressed the common belief that once an artiste is signed to a label, they lose control over their life and career.
Using her experience at Swangz Avenue as an example, she explained that each artiste is treated according to their individual personality and working style.
My character is different from Elijah’s, Winnie Nwagi’s, or Vinka’s. The label guides each of us based on our individual character and attitude. The way they handle me is not the same as how they handle Winnie or Vinka.
The “Masavu” hit-maker went on to firmly dismiss the idea that the label controls artistes, emphasizing that the relationship is more about guidance than restriction.
They guide us. They do not control anyone. If you want to do something, they step in and advise on how best it can be done. They know we are adults.
She concluded by describing the bond with the other artistes on the label as more than just professional.
What connects us is one family, and that family is Swangz Avenue.
