Barbi Jay Sets $50,000 Fee for Performances in Uganda

Singer Barbi Jay, whose real name is Buyinza Julius, has announced that he will no longer perform in Uganda for less than $50,000 (approximately UGX 181.75 million).

The “Sumbusa” hit-maker made the announcement through a post on his official Facebook page, stating that this is now his standard booking fee.

“To all promoters contacting me for shows, that’s my price. No more performances in Uganda for less than $50,000. Thanks, Barbi Jay Management,” the post read.

His bold statement comes at a time when many Ugandan artistes are raising concerns about being undervalued in their own country.

Recently, it was reported that Tanzanian star Diamond Platnumz received a staggering UGX 750 million to perform at the Coffee Marathon Concert in Ntungamo.

This amount is believed to be significantly higher than what the local musicians were paid.

The news sparked frustration within the industry, with several artistes voicing their disappointment.

Many feel event organizers are showing unfair treatment by prioritizing foreign acts over homegrown talent.
