Bebe Cool Defends Jay Z Choice, Says DJ AG Has Already Given Uganda More Than It Deserves
Bebe Cool has faced criticism following his appearance on DJ AG Online during his UK tour for his latest album, Break The Chains.
During the show, the veteran Ugandan musician was asked which artiste he would like to see featured after him.
Fans expected him to pick a Ugandan artiste, but he surprised many by naming American rap superstar Jay Z instead.
This prompted questions about how a musician who often talks about promoting Ugandan music globally could seemingly overlook local talent.
Addressing the backlash, Bebe Cool has explained that his choice was meant to support DJ AG and recognize his hard work.
When DJ AG asked me which musician do you want to come next on this show, I said Jay Z. The reason why I chose Jay Z is because life is not always going to rotate about what you want as an individual, but about what the other person wants.
He stressed that life is not just about personal desires, but also about recognizing the struggles of others.
AG has been struggling with his show for a very long time to get where he is, and he has not even gotten to where he wants to get. So, how about wishing him the best for his platform?
Bebe Cool reminded fans that DJ AG has already given Ugandan artistes significant opportunities.
He has already given Uganda what Uganda deserves, or more than even what we deserves. Two artistes in the shortest possible time, six months, two artistes on the same platform. So what about him? What would he want? Did you sit back and ask yourself what does AG want? He would want the top most influencers in the music industry to pop up in London on his street show. That is all I wanted for him, because he gave me, so I also wish him well.
He made it clear that choosing Jay Z was a gesture of appreciation, not a snub to local talent.
This is not just about Uganda all the time. And even Uganda had received. One, it received Joshua Baraka on the platform. Two, it received Bebe Cool. Three, I kept on saying Uganda, Kenya, East Africa, Nazizi, Wyre, Fire Anthem, blah blah, all that was for the region. And what about for him?
Bebe Cool wrapped up his explanation, urging fans to understand his intention.
People need to learn that the world does not rotate around you receiving but other than you thinking that way, you always do not want to think about the other person who has struggled so much. So, my prayer is please understand me. That decision had nothing to do with that. I still want the biggest stars in the world to go to DJ AG’s platform in London.
