Bebe Cool Teases Upcoming Album “Broken Chains”
Bebe Cool has finally spoken out about the thinking behind his album “Break The Chains,” released on May 30, 2025.
For the veteran singer, the project was about shaking off comfort and trying something different.
He wanted to step away from the sound he was known for and tap into Afrobeat, a genre that continues to dominate music charts across the world.
With “Break The Chains,” Bebe Cool left his reggae and ragga roots behind and leaned fully into Afro-inspired sounds.
It was a bold move, and one that quickly split opinion among fans and critics.
Some praised the risk and applauded his willingness to evolve.
Others were far less impressed, accusing him of trying too hard to sound Nigerian.
Another section labeled the album a flop, arguing that it lacked standout songs or obvious hit records.

Now, Bebe Cool is pushing back on the criticism.
Speaking at the unveiling of his “Bebe Cool List 2025 to 2026,” he made it clear that chasing hits was never the goal of “Break The Chains.”
Instead, his focus was on creating a complete body of work that could sit comfortably alongside albums from some of Africa’s most celebrated artistes.
When I was making the “Break The Chains” album, I was not focused on hits. I was focused on having a body of work that can be put alongside or against other bodies of work from artistes like Wizkid, Burna Boy, and the likes, and I achieved it.
Bebe Cool also revealed that the project is only the beginning of a larger creative journey.
He announced that a follow up album is already in the works and even shared its title.
So we are now going to wait for the second album called “Broken Chains.”
Whether “Break The Chains” achieved its intended impact remains open to public debate.
However, the title of the upcoming album suggests that, for Bebe Cool, the album fulfilled its purpose.
