Bebe Cool Urges Ugandan Musicians to Aim Beyond Local Borders

Bebe Cool has issued a bold call to Ugandan musicians, urging them to move beyond creating music that only appeals to local or East African audiences.

He is encouraging artistes to broaden their vision and actively pursue international recognition.

According to him, the world today is more connected than ever before, with social media providing a powerful platform to showcase music and talent to global audiences.

“There is no reason to create music that only makes sense to people here if your goal is to reach a bigger market,” he said.

Pointing to the success of Nigerian and South African musicians, Bebe Cool highlighted them as examples Ugandan artistes can learn from and emulate.

He also raised concerns about the comfort zone many local musicians seem to have settled into, noting their reluctance to take creative risks.

“The problem is that Ugandans are too comfortable. I may be doing this in the later years of my career, but I believe I am the right person to open the gates for the younger generation to follow,” he said.

His latest album, Break The Chains, marks a significant shift in his music style, from his signature reggae and ragga to a more Afro-inspired sound.

Bebe Cool believes the 16-track album sets a new benchmark that other Ugandan musicians should study and adopt to help propel Uganda’s music onto the global stage.
