Beenie Gunter Says Poor Management Is Driving Artistes Into Depression

Management can determine whether an artiste grows or stalls.

While some teams understand branding and strategy, others, according to Beenie Gunter, fail to understand the business side of music.

The Ugandan dancehall star has worked under at least three major management setups during his career.

His time in the industry has given him insight into how different management styles operate.

Speaking to Galaxy TV, Beenie criticized management teams that, in his view, mishandle artistes and end up damaging their careers.

Very many managements have killed talent, and that comes from a point of not knowing the business. I am kind of biased about management. It is not easy working with people, especially management in Uganda, because they are very manipulative.

He added that the consequences are not just professional but personal, saying some artistes suffer emotionally because of how they are treated.

They manipulate musicians a lot. Musicians even go into depression because of the people they work with.

Based on what he has observed in the industry, Beenie made it clear that he understands how he should be managed.

I am an adult. I am Guntalk. I know what to do. I am not the kind of artiste you can treat or manage anyhow.

He believes management should understand the business and treat artistes professionally and respectfully.
