Big Eye Boasts He Earns More Than MPs Every Month
Ugandan singer Big Eye StarBoss has shut down rumors that his bid for Nansana Municipality MP was motivated by cash.
The “Indicator” hitmaker told Rewind that his main aim has always been to serve the people rather than enrich himself.
According to him, music already gives him a platform to speak for the community, and politics would have simply amplified his voice.
He also revealed that he actually makes more money as a musician than he would have as a lawmaker.
While lawmakers pocket around 35 million shillings a month, which reduces after expenses, the StarBoss says a couple of shows can bring in even more.
The money I receive while singing is more than that of an MP. An MP gets 35 million a month, and their expenses are very high. There are shows I perform at for 10 million or 5 million. If I perform at two shows for 5 million each, or 3 million, even 2 million, that means I end the day with not less than 4 million.
His explanation shows that public service, not profit, motivated him.
In the end, Big Eye missed out on the National Unity Platform ticket, losing to media personality Zambaali Bulasio Mukasa.
He also opted not to run as an independent candidate.
