Big Eye Questions the Effectiveness of the Copyright Management System Without an Amended Copyright Law

Singer Big Eye has raised concerns about the new copyright management system designed by State House, which aims to ensure that musicians are fairly compensated for their music.

He believes that the system, approved by President Museveni, does not address the long-standing issues that musicians and entertainers have been advocating for.

For years, creatives have been calling for an amendment to the copyright law. However, instead of updating the law, the government has introduced a copyright management system.

Big Eye argues that this approach is insufficient, insisting that the copyright law must be amended first for any system to be effective.

Without a solid copyright law, he says, the copyright management system cannot function properly.

In addition, Big Eye pointed out that industry leaders, including himself, worked hard to create booklets outlining ideas for updating the copyright law.

These proposals were even presented in Parliament, yet the system introduced does not reflect what they had suggested.

As a result, Big Eye feels their efforts to improve the law have been ignored, and the industry’s real concerns are being overlooked.

The introduction of the copyright management system reflects an effort to support musicians, but concerns from industry stakeholders suggest that more work may be needed to align it with their expectations.

Whether the new system will effectively address the longstanding concerns of artists or require further reforms remains to be seen.
