Blaqbonez Tells Fans to Judge Music by Quality, Not Charts
Nigerian rapper Blaqbonez has warned that artists should not be judged solely by streams and chart positions.
The rapper, known for calling out manipulation in streaming numbers, made the comments while responding to a fan accusing him of hypocrisy.
The fan criticized him for celebrating his diss song for Odumodublvck, ACL, reaching number one on Apple Music Nigeria.
Blaqbonez explained that he never downplayed the importance of charts but stressed that numbers can be easily manipulated.
He urged music fans to focus on the quality of songs rather than their positions on streaming charts.
The rapper reminded his followers that many great Nigerian songs and artistes do not appear on official charts.
He encouraged fans to trust their ears and judge music based on its merit, not manipulated numbers.
I never talked down on the charts, it’d always be exciting but no artiste should be defined by it. Most of the artistes I am currently listening to in Naija are not up on our charts. You guys are quick to label someone a failure depending on numbers that we know can easily be manipulated. Use your ears sometimes, if something is good its good, that is all I am saying.
