“Bring Back 5-Minute Songs,” Oxlade Tells Nigerian Artistes
Afrobeats singer Oxlade has urged his colleagues to make their songs longer.
He took to X to tell fellow artistes to bring back songs that last five minutes or more.
His message drew wide support, with many fans and musicians agreeing in the comments.
In recent years, Nigerian music has seen a trend of shorter songs, often lasting just over two minutes.
The shift began with artistes like Wizkid and Mr Eazi and grew as newcomers such as Rema, Joeboy, Omah Lay and Ayra Starr entered the scene.
Short songs are now the norm, but in South Africa, Amapiano hits often stretch beyond seven minutes, showing a different approach to music length.
Oxlade himself has followed the trend in the past.
His hit “Kulosa” lasted just 2 minutes and 31 seconds.
Now, he is calling for a change, hoping longer songs will make a comeback in Nigerian music.
