Buchaman Claims He Gave Bobi Wine the ‘Ghetto President’ Title
Ugandan reggae and dancehall artiste Buchaman, born Mark Bugembe, has spoken about the early days of Bobi Wine’s leadership.
While appearing on Bigenda Bitya on Sanyuka TV, Buchaman said Bobi Wine’s leadership did not start in formal politics.
According to him, it began in the ghetto, where they first built influence among the people.
I know that is his destiny at the moment because he is the top opposition leader today. It is his destiny because he loved it. Our leadership started from the ghetto. It did not just come out of the blue.

Buchaman also claimed that he was the first person to call Bobi Wine the “Ghetto President.”
He said he helped build that image through music, salutes, and the Firebase group.
I was the first to call him ‘Ghetto President,’ and he knows it. I am the one who orchestrated everything that you saw. The Firebase cabinet, saluting him as the Ghetto President. There is not a single one of his videos that I feature in without saluting him.
He added that the idea of “Ghetto President” was inspired by Jamaica.
In his view, leadership grows naturally from the community, and Bobi Wine joining formal politics was just an addition.
I started it all because the original Ghetto President comes from Jamaica. These things have a leadership that is just natural. So this political staff that he joined was just a mere addition.
For Buchaman, Bobi Wine’s political journey is a continuation of something that had already started long ago in the ghetto.
