Burial Arrangements for DJ Messe Bontwe Shared as His Body Arrives in Uganda on January 16, 2025
Grace Sekamatte, a close friend of the late Nicholas Mpiirwe, better known as DJ Messe Bontwe, has shared an update on the efforts to repatriate his body.
In a statement released on January 14, 2025, he outlined the final arrangements to honor the late comedian, who passed away on December 12, 2024, in the United States.
According to the update, Messe’s body officially left the United States and is expected to arrive in Uganda on January 16, 2025.
Upon arrival, the body will be handed over to Executive Funeral Services and his family. It will then rest at the funeral home for the night.
On Friday, January 17, 2025, a memorial service will be held at Munyonyo Church of Uganda, after which Messe’s body will be taken to his residence in Kabuuma.
The following day, January 18, 2025, the National Theatre will host a special viewing, providing the art fraternity and friends an opportunity to say their goodbyes at a place that symbolized his passion and career.
The final journey will commence on Sunday, January 19, 2025, as Messe’s body is transported to his ancestral home in Rwampala.
Messe will be laid to rest on Monday, January 20, 2025, at 2:00 PM in a ceremony expected to bring together family, friends, and fans to bid farewell to a man who left an indelible mark on Uganda’s art and entertainment industry.
Grace Sekamatte, on behalf of the team coordinating the arrangements, thanked the North American Ugandan communities for their overwhelming support, which made it possible to repatriate Messe’s body.
He acknowledged their solidarity during this difficult time, emphasizing that their efforts will never be taken for granted.
