Cassper Nyovest Warns AI Music Could Hurt New Artistes

South African rapper Cassper Nyovest says artificial intelligence (AI) is changing music, but the impact may hit new artistes hardest.

The discussion grew after Suka!, an AI created track linked to former podcaster Rea Gopane, gained thousands of monthly listeners and reached number one on Apple Music South Africa’s Top 100.

Cassper admitted the song sounded so real that he thought it came from a new musician.

However, after learning that the song was AI created, his excitement about discovering fresh talent quickly turned into concern.

He believes established stars may be safe for now, but newcomers trying to enter the industry could struggle.

I do not think it is a threat to people who are established. We are fine, but I really see it being a problem for new artists trying to break into the market.

He also warned that record labels might rely on AI music to avoid working with and paying human artistes.

If they can make music like that consistently, it is a problem because I feel AI music might be powered by record labels that do not want to pay or deal with artistes anymore.
