Cindy Denies Releasing “See You Tonight” to Compete With Sheebah’s “Somebody”

When Sheebah Karungi released her song “Somebody” around July 18, it quickly got fans talking.

Weeks later, around August 17, Cindy Sanyu and Omega 256 released their duet “See You Tonight” ahead of their concerts on August 29 and September 19 respectively.

The timing made fans believe Cindy was competing with Sheebah by dropping music soon after her.

But Cindy has now come out to clear the air. Speaking on Full Access, she dismissed the talk.

People need to pay attention more to how I execute my music. I do not execute my music like anybody else. I have my own strategy that I cannot disclose because those are my keys and I cannot give them out.

She stressed that competition is not her style.

I do not want to compete with people. It is you who wants it. But I do not like to compete with anybody when it comes to my music. It is the fans who enjoy the competition, but I do not.

Cindy also revealed that she had “See You Tonight” written long before Sheebah released “Somebody.”

When I released the song, I had already released Nayise Naye. After Nayise Naye, I was ready for the concert. I had no plans whatsoever of releasing another, but I already had the song [See You Tonight] for about three months. The songwriter, Mozy Wryta, had already given me it to me, but I was not ready to release it at that time.

She explained that the release came after meeting Omega 256, who impressed her with her talent.

It is because I met Omega and we shared a couple of songs, but they were not sitting right for the both of us. When I sat down and listened to her voice very well, I realized that she is very capable, because singing with me line for line is not something everybody can manage to do. So when I realized that, we decided to do the song [See You Tonight].

Cindy ended by reminding fans that she has her own way of doing things and that it does not depend in any way on other artistes.

People loving the song was not my plan, because I do not control their hearts or minds. I just released a nice song and Ugandans appreciated it. So claims that I first wait for someone to release then I also release, no, I do not wait for anybody. I have my own timing and mindset that has kept my career going for 20 years. I have a way that I have been releasing my music that has worked for me and has never disappointed me.
