Cwesi Oteng Reveals Gospel Rivals Took His Music to Cemeteries to Halt His Success

Ghanaian gospel sensation Cwesi Oteng has opened up about the spiritual battles and envy he faced in the early years of his career, revealing how his breakout success sparked fear and sabotage from some of his fellow musicians.

Speaking in a media interview, the celebrated artiste shared the struggles he endured as he forged a unique path in the gospel music industry.

Oteng’s distinctive musical style, which strayed from the conventional gospel sound, was met with skepticism and criticism.

His innovative approach to gospel music set him apart from his peers and allowed him to make an impact on the genre.

However, his rise was not without its challenges. Many within the gospel music community felt threatened by his sudden popularity, fearing he might eclipse the success of more established artistes.

“When I entered gospel music, I was like a fresh idea,” Oteng recalled. “I began to break barriers in areas gospel had not reached before. Suddenly, doors were opening for the genre, but with that came a lot of attacks.”

The backlash was not only vocal but also spiritual, as Oteng claimed that some individuals resorted to supernatural means in an attempt to hinder his progress.

“People took my debut album, featuring songs like “I Win” and ‘God Dey Bless Me,” to cemeteries and other strange places to prevent me from succeeding,” he revealed, describing how some sought to use spiritual tactics to sabotage his career.

The toll from these attacks was significant, and Oteng admits that his visibility in the music scene suffered as a result.

His later songs failed to achieve the same level of recognition, and the constant battle against both public and spiritual opposition led to a gradual decline in his public presence.

“It took a toll on me,” he admitted. “It is not just about the music, it is about the whole package: your health, your mind, and your spirit.”

In response to the overwhelming pressure, Oteng made a conscious decision to step back from the spotlight.

Acknowledging the importance of maintaining his well-being, he chose to prioritize self-care and return to music on his own terms.

“You want to live long,” he explained. “So when you become aware of what is going on, you have to re-energise yourself. Stardom is not everything to me. I am fine stepping away for a while to focus on myself and then returning.”

This decision highlights Oteng’s recognition that fame, while rewarding, should never come at the expense of mental health and peace of mind.

Despite stepping back from the industry for some time, Oteng remains firm in his mission to inspire and uplift others through his music.

His latest release, “Favour,” serves as a reminder to believers of the importance of affirming their faith and recognizing their blessings.

Through his new track, Oteng continues to deliver messages of hope and encouragement to his audience, reflecting his resilience and commitment to his spiritual and musical journey.
