D Star ‘Hozambe’ Pushes Back Against One-Hit Wonder Label
Rising Ugandan singer, D Star has dismissed claims that he is a one-hit wonder, saying his success is no accident.
His breakout track “Hozambe” went viral through social media challenges and spread across East Africa, and he believes the numbers prove his impact.
Speaking to Sanyuka Uncut, he pushed back against critics questioning his staying power.
My song Hozambe has 17 million views in Uganda. As a rising star in this country, no one has ever achieved such a record. It is only me. So do not let my shine be underrated by artists who are bitter about my success.
Hozambe said several artistes rushed to work with him but went quiet when it was time to promote the songs.
Some artistes worked tirelessly hoping to see my downfall, but it never happened.
On his personal life, Hozambe addressed rumors that he is backed by an older partner, saying he is currently single.
I came into music to sing, not to look for sugar mummies. Maybe in the future, if time allows and I am willing, I can get one. But for now, I am single and not searching.
For now, the singer says his focus remains on music and building his career.
