D Star Takes Aim at Kapeke, Says “Hoozambe” Tops His Entire Catalogue

D Star is not taking the one-hit-wonder label lightly.

The “Hoozambe/Shifra” star hit back on Sanyuka Uncut, pointing to his YouTube numbers as proof of his staying power.

In the middle of defending himself, he dragged “Kaba” hitmaker Kapeke into the debate, claiming he is superior to him.

I am not a one hit wonder because I did a song that hit 15 million views on YouTube in one year. Now go and check songs from other artistes like Kapeke, get all their songs and see if the views on my one song does not match the views on all their songs. That means that they are singing for nothing.

D Star said his mission has always been to make music that travels beyond Uganda, not just songs that trend in small corners.

And once again, Kapeke’s name came up as he argued that some artistes focus on local applause that does not extend far.

I want to make songs that hit Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and beyond. I do not want to release a song and be like Kapeke, whose music does not go past Makindye but still brags about it. I am a ghetto youth. I create with the intention of crossing borders. That is why when I first came, I did not just release anything. I released ‘Shifra.’

D Star also spoke about a past collaboration with Kapeke, saying the project did not receive proper promotion.

He added that a similar situation happened with Gloria Bugie, which he believes was a deliberate lack of support from fellow artistes.

I did a collaboration with Kapeke, but he did not promote it. I also gave Gloria Bugie a collab when I was trending. They refused to promote the songs because they were praying for my downfall, but I will not fall. They did not push the song(s) I did with them.

With shots fired and numbers on the table, D Star is clearly not accepting the one-hit-wonder tag.
