David Lutalo Cautions Artistes Against Putting All Promotion Efforts on TikTok

TikTok has become one of the hottest platforms for promoting music.

Many artistes now see it as a powerful way to reach audiences quickly.

To capitalise on this, some hire content creators to launch viral challenges around their songs in hopes of making it go viral.

However, Ugandan singer David Lutalo believes this strategy should not be the only tool in an artiste’s promotional arsenal.

In a conversation with YouTuber Shalom 256, Lutalo shared his reservations about relying entirely on the platform for success.

Many songs perform well on TikTok but fail to make an impact elsewhere. Even though TikTok is one of the best platforms for promoting music, it should be used alongside ground promotion.

He added that songs can still break through via other channels even if they flop on TikTok.

You can find a song that did not perform on TikTok but succeeded through other channels and became big.

Lutalo cited his track “Ngondera” as an example to illustrate his point.

When you see me performing ‘Ngondera’ and feel the energy it commands, you might expect the same or even greater success on TikTok, which is not the case.

David Lutalo’s thoughts suggest that while TikTok can be powerful, it is not a guaranteed path to success, and should be complemented by other forms of promotion.
