David Lutalo Defends Sharing Booking Number on TikTok Live
Ugandan singer David Lutalo has responded to criticism that followed his recent TikTok Live, where he shared a booking number.
During the session on Saturday, Lutalo mentioned a business number after a fan asked how to book him.
What seemed like a simple response quickly sparked debate online, with some critics claiming it made him look desperate or short on gigs.
Lutalo has since pushed back, saying many people misunderstood the situation.
Speaking in an interview with Allan Cruz on Cruz Xclusive, he explained that sharing booking contacts is not new for artistes and has always been part of the business, even before the rise of social media platforms.
We used to read our numbers even way before, except that there was no TikTok back then. There were radios and TVs.
Beyond that, he stressed that making the official contact public also serves an important purpose.
It helps protect fans and promoters from fraud, especially with individuals who have been impersonating him.
There are many people who scam using my name. There was someone I used to work with who gives out his number when people inquire about me, so I have to keep reading out my business number so that people know the right one.
He went on to clarify that the number he shared does not belong to him personally, but to his manager, and that he only gave it out in direct response to a fan’s request during the live session.
Someone asked for it on live saying they wanted to book me and asked how they can do it, so what was I supposed to do? I gave out my manager’s number, that is not my personal number. It is also my right to give out mine if I wanted to.
