David Lutalo to Promoters: “Artistes Are the Real Bosses”
David Lutalo has shared his thoughts on the ongoing debate surrounding funding in Uganda’s entertainment industry.
In an interview with Sanyuka Uncut, the celebrated singer addressed a recent meeting between music promoters and the Minister of Gender, Hon. Amongi Betty Ongom.
During the meeting, promoters expressed frustration over being left out of the UGX 33 billion recently allocated to the industry.
They argued that despite playing a vital role in the business side of music, they were unfairly excluded from the funding.
Some even described themselves as the “bosses” of artistes, claiming responsibility for managing key aspects of their careers.
But Lutalo offered a sharply contrasting view.
Artistes are the real bosses because we can survive in any condition. We create and compose the content. Promoters just come in to use that content. So, they should stay in their lane and respect the creators.
He went on to stress that artistes form the backbone of the industry and can continue to thrive, with or without promoters, as long as they remain focused on creating meaningful work.
