DJ Alisha Reveals How She Handled Online Hate While on Nightlife Break

Ugandan-based Rwandan DJ Alisha Uwase has opened up about how she dealt with negative social media comments while taking a break from the entertainment scene to refocus on herself.

Unlike many who ignore online chatter, Alisha admitted that she actually reads the comments directed at her.

I do not want to admit it, but I do. Honestly, I feel like, guys, it is so hard to pass by someone talking about you or a blog. If you do it, and you just pass by, listen, I commend you, please teach me some of your ways. But, I read.

During a sit down on the Ugandan Boy Talk Show, Alisha noted that some of the comments did hurt, but she always reminded herself that people’s perception of her is not her reality.

I cannot lie and say that sometimes you do not see things and they do not scathe you a little bit, because we are human beings and we have feelings at the end of the day. And some people on these apps are very mean. So, for me, it always came back to knowing who I am. Just because someone has a perception of me does not make it my reality. For me, I always say, ‘I have seen it.’ Is it good to look at? Of course not. No one wants to see themselves being bashed and misunderstood, but at the end of the day, I knew that you cannot control people. You cannot control things outside of yourself. The only thing I had control over was my attitude and just understanding that this is not even about me, because this is not who I am, then just leave it where I saw it and continue with my life.”

DJ Alisha is now back and active on the decks.

This time, however, she is doing away with the habits that previously forced her to take a break in order to focus and reconnect with herself.
