DJ Big N Says Afrobeats Is Losing Its Shine

Nigerian disc jockey Big N has raised alarm over what he calls a major decline in the global impact of Afrobeats.

He believes the once-dominant sound has slipped to its lowest point in two decades.

He pointed to both artistes and music executives for the fall, saying the genre lost its edge when creators started chasing foreign approval instead of staying true to its African roots.

The attempt to appeal to global audiences, he said, weakened the music’s originality and made it sound less authentic.

According to him, many Afrobeats tracks no longer carry the distinct energy that once captured the world’s attention.

He also criticized the rising performance fees, saying many Nigerian acts have priced themselves out of reach, even at home.

DJ Big N urged artistes to refocus on quality, creativity, and cultural identity to keep the genre alive and competitive on the international stage.
