Dokta Brain Denies Competition From Beenie Gunter Caused His ZHAFAR Exit
Dokta Brain has dismissed claims that he left Zhafar Music Agency because he felt threatened by competition, particularly from dancehall star Beenie Gunter.
The celebrated singer and songwriter exited the label in September 2025 after just five months.
At the time, he cited unmet expectations and a working pace that did not align with his own.
Despite that explanation, speculation has continued that internal competition may have influenced his decision.
While appearing on The Big Talk, Dokta Brain made it clear that he does not view fellow Ugandan artistes as competitors.
Competition to me is almost dead. Which person delivers like Dokta Brain in Uganda?
He also addressed talk of rivalry with Beenie Gunter, saying the dancehall singer was never a threat to him, but someone he respected.
Beenie Gunter was not competition but a partner. I respect Beenie Gunter because he is one of the people I used to look for to feature in my music video.
Dokta Brain further noted that Beenie Gunter was already making big moves even before he publicly spoke about his songwriting work.
Even by the time I came out to declare that I write songs for stars, Beenie Gunter already had a song with Sheebah. I would only have had things to learn from him.
He then suggested that framing their relationship as competition only downplays Beenie Gunter’s status in the industry.
If it were really competition, then they have weakened him.
Dokta Brain concluded that going forward, he would only work with a label as a partner, not under a boss-and-worker structure.
