Dokta Brain Expresses Disappointment in Ugandan Music Fans, Urges Them to Be More Intellectual
Singer-songwriter Dokta Brain has voiced his concerns about the lack of appreciation Ugandan musicians receive from local audiences, despite their dedication to producing quality music.
Speaking on the Ugandan Boy Talk Show, Dokta Brain highlighted a disconnect between the effort artistes put in and the support they get from fans.
I am proud of the music makers. I do not blame the fans, but I am not so proud of them.
He pointed out a tendency among Ugandan music fans to favor English-language music from outside Uganda while overlooking local artistes creating music in the same language.
They love English music when it comes from outside Uganda, but when it is made here, they do not like it. Even if they find out that this artiste is Ugandan and they are performing in the UK, they will not support the artiste.
Dokta Brain cited Ms Banks, a UK-based artiste of Ugandan origin, as an example of talent that should be celebrated more at home.
Take an example of Ms Banks. She would be very much more praised here. She is in the UK but Ugandan. We do not know how to love our own like the Nigerians have done it for Nonso Amadi. They have done it for their own.
He concluded with a call for fans to change their mindset and embrace local music with more love and enthusiasm.
I am requesting fans to be a little more intellectual. Music is not dead, but its love is what we are trying to wake up. It has been asleep.
