Dr Rashid Lukwago on Family Rift: “Those I Cared For Wanted to See Me Fail”
Dr Rashid Lukwago has spoken out about a deeply personal struggle, a strained relationship with his own family.
Speaking to Sanyuka Uncut, the Ugandan herbalist revealed that some relatives have been working against him, even going as far as plotting his downfall.
Today, I want to speak openly about my life and the journey I have been through. I believe that whatever has happened to me, whatever struggles and setbacks, are largely because of my family. I was truly shocked to realize that those I cared for when they were young actually wanted to see me fall into depression. It is a painful truth, but one I must acknowledge.
The disagreement has also involved attempts by certain family members to pressure Lukwago to change his name, a demand he firmly rejects.
For him, his name carries deep meaning and identity.
Among my family members, there is no one who has the right to tell me to stop calling myself Lukwago. That name is a part of who I am, and I stand proud of it.
While he spoke of betrayal from some relatives, Lukwago also acknowledged those who have stood with him, particularly his wife.
He praised her as his source of strength in turbulent times.
I want to take this moment to thank my wife, Sharon. Sharon, your support has been my anchor. Thank you for standing by me, for being my strength in difficult times.
Lukwago concluded his emotional revelation with a pointed message to his family, asserting his independence and right to live life on his own terms.
To all my family members, I say this: Stop judging me. You are not God. You do not have the right to impose your beliefs or judgments on my life. I am an individual, and I will live my life the way I see fit.
