Dwayne Johnson Delivers Emotional Speech at Variety Creative Impact Awards Brunch in Palm Springs

Dwayne Johnson delivered an emotional and reflective speech at Variety’s Creative Impact Awards and 10 Directors to Watch brunch during the Palm Springs International Film Festival.

The annual event, held at the Parker Hotel in Palm Springs, brought together filmmakers and industry stars following the festival’s Film Awards.

Johnson received the Creative Impact in Acting Award for his performance in “The Smashing Machine.” The honor was presented by Colman Domingo, who praised Johnson’s growth and commanding screen presence.

In his remarks, Johnson spoke about how the role reshaped his perspective, deepening his empathy around pain, addiction, and pressure.

He reflected on losing 15 friends to drug abuse and suicide, noting that struggle is something many people carry quietly.

He dedicated the award to those fighting unseen battles.

The brunch also honored Teyana Taylor, who received the Creative Impact in Breakthrough Performance Award, and Guillermo del Toro, recognized with the Creative Impact in Directing Award.

Taylor spoke about creative freedom and her move into directing, while del Toro reflected on art, monsters, and humanity.

Variety also unveiled its latest 10 Directors to Watch list, spotlighting emerging filmmakers shaping the future of cinema.
