Eddy Kenzo Calls for Legal Measures to Address Nudity and Vulgarity in the Music Industry

Eddy Kenzo, President of the Uganda Musicians Association (UMA) and Senior Presidential Advisor on Creatives, recently addressed concerns about inappropriate dressing, language, and nudity in the music industry.

In an interview on Uncut, he mentioned an upcoming meeting with the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) to tackle this growing issue.

According to Eddy Kenzo, UCC is collaborating with other institutions to educate musicians on their cultural responsibilities, emphasizing that they are key cultural ambassadors.

Eddy Kenzo noted that culture is mainly portrayed through entertainment, and as musicians, they should aim to protect it rather than compromise it.

While he acknowledged the sensitivity of the issue, given that musicians have freedom of expression, he suggested that legal measures might be needed to guide industry standards.

He further explained that these trends often stem from global influences, and they are heightened by public demand.

“If the public did not consume this content, musicians would not produce it,” he explained, pointing out how vulgar songs can still achieve nationwide popularity due to audience interest.

In conclusion, Eddy Kenzo urged musicians to honor their African heritage and cultural values. He also called on audiences to reject inappropriate content, as their support plays a significant role in its spread.
