Eddy Kenzo Dismisses Belief That Global Hits Must Be in English
BET Award winner Eddy Kenzo has disagreed with the popular belief that for a song to go global, it has to be sung in English.
Speaking on Bruno K’s TikTok Live show Ekiboozi, the “Sitya Loss” hit-maker said the belief is misleading, giving examples of global hits that were not in English.
Some of the biggest songs of all time were not sung in English. Songs like Gangnam Style, Despacito, and some of the reggaeton songs we used to dance to. Even some songs from West Africa.
He added that many record-breaking and timeless songs were not in English.
Eddy Kenzo is no stranger to global fame, even though he sings predominantly in Luganda.
His success on the international stage, including winning prestigious awards like the BET Award, is living proof that music transcends language.
