Eddy Kenzo Takes Charge of Handling Musicians Flocking to Gulu for Help from General Saleh
Eddy Kenzo, the president of the Uganda National Musicians Federation and senior presidential advisor on creatives, emphasized the need to move beyond labeling musicians as beggars, stating that everyone faces challenges and problems.
His comments followed a directive from General Salim Saleh, the National Coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation, who asked him to handle the growing number of musicians traveling to Gulu seeking assistance.
Kenzo pointed out that while some musicians may seek handouts, many of those traveling to Gulu to meet General Saleh present brilliant ideas.
He further explained that before directing musicians to the musicians federation and other existing structures, General Saleh ensured they were functional.
Kenzo believes that if these structures are utilized properly, they can provide the support musicians need.
The BET Award winner stressed that his role is to help musicians, regardless of whether they feel he is qualified or not.
His objective is to build, not destroy, and he has no personal conflicts. He urged musicians to acknowledge their need for his assistance and present actionable ideas.
He also mentioned the government-funded SACCO designed to assist musicians. Through this program, musicians can submit proposals, which are reviewed to determine if they deserve funding.
If approved, they receive funds for productive initiatives, with the understanding that repayment will be gradual.
Kenzo concluded by clarifying that the money is not for spending carelessly but for working on sustainable projects.
