Erigga Calls Out Nigerians for Undervaluing Local Music

Nigerian rapper Erigga has voiced frustration over the tendency of Nigerians to prioritize foreign entertainers while overlooking homegrown talent.

In an interview with Yanga FM, the Warri-born artiste reacted to the relocation of the Headies Awards to the United States, saying it highlights a deeper issue: many Nigerians value international recognition more than local achievements.

Erigga pointed out that despite thriving talent and large audiences in Nigeria, people often focus on events abroad.

He contrasted small foreign audiences with the massive crowds that support Nigerian artistes at home.

The rapper also revealed how fans pressure him to perform in English rather than his native style, saying he prefers to educate people through his street-inspired music instead of following foreign trends.

For Erigga, the message is clear: Nigerians should celebrate their own talent and appreciate the culture right at home.
