Failure to Give “A Cappella” Cost Ssegoona the NUP Ticket, Mbidde Claims
Former East African Legislative Assembly member Fred Mukasa Mbidde has spoken out on why Hon. Medard Lubega Sseggona was denied the National Unity Platform (NUP) flag bearer ticket for Busiro East, which instead went to singer-turned-politician Mathias Walukaga.
With a mix of seriousness and humor, Mbidde pointed to Ssegoona’s failure to give a cappella during the party’s interview process.
Honorable Ssegoona being left out and not receiving a National Unity Platform card comes from the interview process for choosing the flag bearer. During his interview, he failed to give a kapeera, a traditional offering to the interviewers. This was a critical oversight because it is a cultural aspect that we value highly in our political processes. Because of this, Mathias Walukaga was chosen over him.
He noted, with surprise, that even Big Eye failed to respect this key tradition, something he felt the snubbed singer should have recognized.
Honestly, I am surprised to see Big Eye failing to understand this simple cultural requirement. It shows a lack of readiness and respect for our traditions, which are integral to our politics.
Mbidde also voiced doubt about the current group of politicians vying for parliamentary seats.
Most of them are jokers. They do not understand politics at all, and they lack the knowledge, strategy, and seriousness needed to serve the people effectively. As for Namulindwa Flavia, she knows nothing about politics and is not prepared for the challenges ahead. We need leaders who understand governance, not those who are just jumping into the game without any real insight.
