Francis Odega Says Nollywood Movies Were Better in the Past
The debate over Nollywood’s movie quality has resurfaced after comments from veteran actor Francis Odega.
Speaking on the Where Is The Lie, Odega said the industry once produced unforgettable films but believes that standard has dropped in recent years.
He argued that earlier Nollywood productions focused on delivering one strong movie from a script, while modern productions sometimes turn a single script into multiple poor films.
Back then, one script would give us one unforgettable movie. But now, one script can give you seven bad movies, and that is not right. Nollywood back then, is far better than the Nollywood of today.
The actor added that he has been part of the industry for three decades and considers himself among the early contributors who helped build Nollywood.
I was among of the people who made Nollywood. When we started, Nollywood was just a phenomenon. Our organisation used to be called Nigerian Actors Guild, NAG, before we later changed it to Actors’ Guild Of Nigeria, AGN. It was after then that Nollywood came. So, I am one of the pioneers of Nollywood. I have been in the movie industry for 30 years
