Gloria Bugie Exposes the Negativity Holding Back Uganda’s Music Industry
Gloria Bugie is speaking her mind, and she is not holding back.
The singer, who is no stranger to criticism, said that there are many issues that need to be addressed, particularly the culture of tearing each other down.
She explained to Daily Soup that instead of supporting one another, Ugandan artistes often undermine each other’s success.
There are so many issues in our industry. Ugandans, instead of celebrating each other’s success, like when someone is nominated for a Grammy or goes international, they try to tear them down. There are many things that need to be changed in our industry because we are doing really badly.

Despite the challenges, Gloria made it clear that she does not see herself as a superhero tasked with saving the entire industry.
Instead, she intends to focus on what she can personally change.
As an individual and a musician, what I can change is what I will change. I am not God.
Gloria closed the interview with a passionate plea for unity among Ugandan artistes.
She stressed that support and collaboration are the keys to reclaiming the country’s musical prominence on the continent.
We need to support each other as Ugandans. We need to push each other to do better. Uganda was the first country to be known musically, even before the Nigerians, but they came and took the spot from us. The same thing happened with the Kenyans. We are still here fighting each other instead of supporting each other to grow further.
