Gloria Bugie Reveals What Inspires Her Music

In a recent interview with Next Radio, Gloria Bugie opened up about her unique approach to music and self-expression, and why she’s unashamedly herself.

When asked about flaunting her body more than her music, Bugie shrugged off any concern. “It does not make me feel any type of way,” she said.

“It is my body, and I cannot chop it off. I am doing music, and when I shoot videos, you will definitely see the body. I cannot hide it; it is part of who I am,” she emphasised.

Bugie has been perceived as an artist who only sings about her body, but she clarified that this is not the case for every song. “I have only sung about my body in two out of eight songs,” she explained.

“It is not something I will sing about all the time, but why not? Everyone sings about love, so why not sing about something else, like ‘nyash,’ face, and everything?” she added.

When asked about singing in some Kinyarwanda, Bugie said, “I am a linguist, and I want to represent Uganda on a global stage. That is why I add a bit of Kinyarwanda, Kiswahili, and French to my music. I am not just focusing on Uganda musically.”

The song ‘Nyash’ is currently under a lot of public scrutiny, and she confessed that the song is at the center of several controversies.

“I was singing about the current trend where men are obsessed with curvy women, and women often love money. I was trying to highlight how some women who do not have a curvy figure suffer or feel less valued. It is about addressing these issues and showing that you might not get full love from a man if you do not fit the ‘nyash’ stereotype,” she stressed.
